World premiere of Ennio Morricone’s composition staged in Polish exhibition centre

Per Artem Ad Deum 2012

Ennio Morricone and Poznańskie Słowiki Choir were awarded by Per Artem ad Deum 2012 Medal

“Tra Cielo e Terra” – a cantata of a musical genius, Ennio Morricone performed in Targi Kielce (Poland) during the “Per Artem ad Deum” Medal presentation ceremony.

World premiere of a new version of Ennio Morricone’s “Tra Cielo e Terra” attended by the composer was held in Targi Kielce. The previous, Roman version of the cantata was altered. The composition staged during the presentation ceremony of the Pontifical Council for Culture Medal “Per Artem ad Deum” was a soundtracks selection from the two films which portrayed John Paul II and Karol Wojtyła. The composition premiere and the Medal presentation were held in front of the two-thousand audience.

– The music I write is associated with the religion and the Head of the Church John Paul II; owing to this fact I have been able to become familiar with this Great Pole. I came to realise that this man became the Pope and the Pope remained a man – said Morricone before his work was performed.

The artist appreciated the cantata performance of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Swietokrzyskie Philharmonic directed by Jacek Rogala and the Krakow Philharmonic Choir. The concert of the Poznan Nightingales Choir performing, inter alia, the compositions of Mikołaj Gomułka, Wacław of Szamotuły of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart brought the audience closer to the sacrum.

– Today’s programme is not a coincidence; as I was building the repertoire I reached for the works Professor Stuligrosz most liked to conduct – said the Poznan Nightingales Choir director Maciej Wieloch.

This is the concert of two dimensions. It represents the dialogue between religion and culture as well as the affiliations of the Holy See and Poland. This is the evening when the faith and music converge afresh in the name of John Paul II; this happens thanks to the fact that the music is dedicated to him – said the President of the Pontifical Council for Culture HE Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi during the ceremony.

The “Per Artem ad Deum” Medal is the accolade presented by Pontifical Council for Culture; the Council was created at the initiative of Pope John Paul II. The exceptional distinction is presented in Targi Kielce. This year’s Medal laureates are Ennio Morricone and † Stefan Stuligrosz.

The media sponsors of the Targi Kielce concert were RMF Classic, Interia.pl, TVP1 and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily.

A special concert which adds splendour to the Per Artem ad Deum presentation ceremony is to be held on 29th September. Owing to the works of art presented in the concert the public will experience a mystical dimension.

The Poznan Nightingales Choir will perform 11 pieces – six a capella works in the part of “Early Choral Music” and five accompanied by pipe organs with Maciej Bolewski as the organ player; this will be the first part of the concert. The Choir will be conducted by Maciej Wielocha.

The second concert part will be staged after HE Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has presented the Medals. The Kielce Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jacek Rogala will play Ennio Morricone’s works “Tra cielo e terra – between the heaven and the earth”.

You are most welcome to join the event our country has never witnessed before.

Ennio Morricone and Stefan Stuligrosz on the same stage

The concert of the Per Artem ad Deum medal laureates this September only in Targi Kielce

Per Artem Ad Deum

The event Poland has never witnessed before – one stage and the works of two composers whose fame exceeds Europe and reaches far across the world. Ennio Morricone – an Italian composer, a genius of film music creation, the winner of the honorary Oscar and Stefan Stuligrosz – a renowned Polish conductor and composer, the founder of Poznańskie Słowiki (Poznan Nightingales) choir, the truly charismatic personality. They both will stand arm in arm to be presented with the Per Artem ad Deum medal by President of the Pontifical Council for Culture HE Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.

The contest chapter presents the accolades to the creators who have substantially contributed to European art and culture development in a lasting and significant way and thus promoted bonds with the Church and facilitated dialogue between different cultures of contemporary world. Targi Kielce is the only place in the world where this exceptional distinction has been presented for 8 years. The Per Artem ad Deum Medal accompanies the International Exhibition of Church Construction, Church Fittings and Furnishings and Religious Art SACROEXPO; Europe’s largest event of this kind which brings together over 250 exhibitors from over a dozen of courtiers.

– This year’s edition of the competition has for the first time expanded to the European scale – says Andrzej Mochoń PhD, Targi Kielce President of Board; the member of the Per Artem Ad Deum medal chapter – out of sixteen contest nominees put forward by, inter alia, the Czech Republic Ministry of Culture, Ivan Devcic PhD, the Latvian Theatre Union, the chapter has selected five laureates to be presented with the medal: Ennio Morricone, Stefan Stuligrosz, Otakáro Maria Schmidt – documentary firm director from Czech Republic, Stanisław Rodziński – a Polish painter and Leszek Sobecki who is also a painter. The laureate fellowship already comprises of Leszek Mądzik, Stanisław Niemczyk, Wojciech Kilar and Krzysztof Zanussi.

The Medal chapter upon selecting the two distinguished artists to be presented with this prestigious accolade has provided the justification of their choice:

Ennio Morricone: For the inventive genius to create the intimacy marked with lyricisms and simplicity; for producing sounds all the world loves.

Stefan Stuligrosz: For being optimistic and consequent on his way to soul liberation

The concert honoured by the presence of the laureates will be held on 29th September in the Targi Kielce E pavilion; Poland’s most state of the art exhibition hall. The concert will feature the Swietokrzyskie Philharmonic Orchestra performing Ennio Morricone’s compositions and the Poznan Nightingales.
